COVID-19, the virus responsible for the current global pandemic, is a highly contagious and potentially lethal virus. Its spread continues in many areas of the world and the United States, including Nebraska.
The ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵof Nebraska is engaged in numerous efforts to prevent, mitigate, and respond to the continued spread of COVID-19 in Nebraska and our campuses. Efforts include increased cleaning, implementation of mask-wearing protocols, social distancing measures, use of the 1-Check COVID app, and other recommended mitigation strategies.
Despite the University’s best efforts, it is impossible to eliminate the risk of positive cases or an outbreak on our campuses. We cannot guarantee that people present on our campuses will not be exposed to and become infected with COVID-19. The risk of exposure and possible infection is real and present in any community environment where large numbers of people are regularly interacting, particularly when they do not adhere to the established protocol that includes wearing masks when in public and frequent hand washing.
Recent research suggests the virus likely spreads by respiratory droplets released when people talk, cough, or sneeze. The ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵcontinues to follow the guidance of the CDC and local health departments and medical experts. Scientists and medical doctors continue to learn more about the virus and look for possible treatments and vaccines, although there is no vaccine currently available.
Again, the ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵwill do its utmost to reduce the risk and mitigate the effects of this virus, and we need for every member of our ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵcommunity to do likewise.
